Religious Life

MCS Religious Life

Bishop Ryan High School
Religious Education Program

Before you were born, God had a plan for you. Nothing will make you happier than following this plan that God prepared for you. We live in a society that tells us to live for ourselves, that tells us to seek our own happiness. But selfish ambitions strangle life out of you and leave you empty. Only in following God will you truly be happy. Only in seeking His will are you able to experience life to its fullest.

Priesthood and Religious Life

You give your entire being to God, and free yourself from worldly ambitions by taking vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

Single

Without a family to occupy your time, you can be generous with your time and money to help your extended family, parish, and community.

Married

You commit a lifetime to a relationship, faithfully serving one another, open to children and dedicating your life to raising them.

Underlying Principles in Vocation Awareness

  • Each of us is called by God. This call is rooted in Baptism, and is a way of participating in the mission of Jesus.
  • No call is more important than another.
  • Most people will choose marriage. Some people are single and may choose to serve God in that state of life. Others may choose to be sisters, priests, or brothers.
  • All lifestyles are needed for the sake of God's people, to make the picture complete.
  • Priesthood and religious life continue to evolve in ways never presented by the stereotypical and negative images in the media.
  • Sisters, priests, and brothers are ordinary people who don't claim to be perfect, but desire to be of service in how they live and work.
  • Priesthood and religious life are for healthy, happy, energetic women and men, not for people who have no other options.
  • A celibate choice is a valid and healthy way of loving that demands an integrated sense of self and one's sexuality.
  • Personal invitation continues to be the main reason someone chooses to consider religious life and priesthood as possible options.
